Relaxation Massage in Birmingham

Slow, deeply soothing movements to calm your mind and body completely. The perfect treatment for stress, anxiety or simply needing a proper break. In-call and out-call from £80.

What is Relaxation Massage?

Relaxation massage is a gentle, full-body treatment focused entirely on one thing — helping you switch off. Unlike Swedish or deep tissue massage which have specific therapeutic goals like improving circulation or releasing muscle knots, relaxation massage is purely about giving your mind and body the deep rest they need.

The movements are slower and more repetitive than Swedish massage, with a consistent, unhurried rhythm that tells your nervous system it's safe to completely let go. Most people drift into a deeply calm state within the first few minutes — and many fall asleep entirely, which is completely fine and actually a sign the treatment is working.

Who is relaxation massage for?

This is the treatment I'd recommend if any of the following sounds like you:

  • You're stressed or overwhelmed — work, life admin, family pressures. Sometimes your body just needs someone to take care of it for an hour.
  • You struggle with anxiety — the slow, repetitive touch of relaxation massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the body's natural "rest and digest" response — the opposite of anxiety's fight-or-flight state.
  • You can't sleep properly — many clients tell me they sleep noticeably better for several days after a session. The drop in cortisol and rise in serotonin from massage genuinely improves sleep quality.
  • You just need a proper break — you don't need a medical reason. If you're exhausted and running on empty, a relaxation massage is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself.
  • You've never had a massage before — this is the most gentle, non-intimidating option. No firm pressure, no discomfort. Just warmth and calm.

What are the benefits of Relaxation Massage?

  • Reduces cortisol — the stress hormone drops significantly during and after massage, leaving you feeling genuinely calmer rather than just temporarily distracted
  • Boosts serotonin and dopamine — the body's natural mood-lifters, which is why you often feel quietly happy after a session
  • Improves sleep quality — lower cortisol and a calmed nervous system leads to deeper, more restorative sleep
  • Eases physical tension — stress lives in the body, particularly the neck, shoulders and jaw. Relaxation massage addresses this gently but effectively
  • Lowers blood pressure — regular massage has been shown to have a lasting positive effect on blood pressure in people who are regularly stressed
  • Gives you genuine time off — an hour where nothing is expected of you and someone is simply taking care of you is more valuable than it sounds

What's the difference between relaxation and Swedish massage?

They're similar but not the same. Swedish massage uses a combination of techniques — effleurage, petrissage, tapotement — with circulation improvement as a key goal alongside relaxation. Relaxation massage is slower, more fluid and more meditative. There's no tapping, less kneading, and the whole session is calibrated to keep you in a deeply calm state from start to finish.

If you want to fully switch off and don't have specific muscle issues to address, relaxation massage is the better choice. If you want the benefits of relaxation but also want to improve circulation and ease general muscle tension, Swedish is a great option.

What to expect in your session

I'll have a brief chat before we start to understand how you're feeling and what you'd like to focus on. You'll lie on the massage table under warm towels and I'll use a gentle, nourishing oil suited to your skin. The session is unhurried — I won't rush through areas or watch a clock. You're welcome to talk or stay completely silent, whichever feels right.

Afterwards I'd recommend drinking water and resting for the remainder of the day if possible. Many people feel a little dreamy or floaty after a deep relaxation session — that's completely normal and a sign that your nervous system has genuinely shifted into a calmer state.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about relaxation massage in Birmingham.

My relaxation massage sessions are £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 minutes and £120 for 120 minutes. I offer in-call (come to me in Birmingham) and out-call (I come to your home or hotel) appointments.
Relaxation massage is slower and more meditative than Swedish. Swedish uses a wider range of techniques including kneading and tapping and focuses on circulation as well as relaxation. Relaxation massage uses slow, flowing movements exclusively, calibrated to keep you in a deeply calm, sleepy state throughout.
Yes — it's one of the most effective treatments for anxiety and stress. The slow, repetitive touch activates the parasympathetic nervous system and lowers cortisol levels. Many clients notice they feel calmer not just during the session but for several days afterwards.
Yes — I offer out-call relaxation massage across Birmingham and surrounding areas including Edgbaston, Moseley, Harborne, Sutton Coldfield, Solihull and more. I bring my professional portable massage table and everything else needed for a full session.
60 minutes covers the full body comfortably. If you want a truly unhurried, deeply restorative experience — including scalp, face and extra time on areas you carry tension — 90 minutes is ideal. 120 minutes is for those who want the most thorough, immersive session possible.
